Don't Live With Neck Pain

Neck pain has plenty of causes - sleeping awkwardly, poor posture, a pinched nerve or a specific injury - but whatever's behind it, the right physiotherapy for neck pain early on makes a real difference to how quickly you recover.

Physio Action has provided expert neck pain physiotherapy since 2003. We see everything from whiplash after a fall or collision to postural neck pain from long days at a desk, and nerve-related pain that radiates into the shoulder or arm. We diagnose the cause, explain it clearly, and most patients feel a meaningful difference within 2-4 sessions of neck pain physio.

Neck Pain Conditions We Treat

  • Postural & desk-related neck pain — tension and stiffness from long screen hours and poor sitting posture
  • Whiplash — sudden neck movement from a fall, collision, contact sport or blow to the head
  • Nerve root irritation — a trapped or inflamed nerve in the neck causing pain that can spread into the shoulder or arm
  • Wryneck / Torticollis — a painful twisting and tilting of the neck, sometimes present from birth, sometimes triggered by injury or infection
  • Acute & injury-related neck pain — sudden onset following an awkward sleeping position or a specific incident

Whiplash Physiotherapy

When the head is suddenly jolted, the neck's ligaments can be stretched beyond their normal range. We commonly see whiplash from rear-end collisions, contact sports, cycling and horse-riding falls, and blows to the head. Early treatment — manual therapy, targeted exercise and clear advice on movement — significantly speeds recovery and reduces the risk of ongoing stiffness.

Nerve Root Irritation

Around 85% of people experience this at some point — it happens when a nerve becomes compressed or inflamed as it leaves the spine, causing pain that can radiate into the shoulder, arm or upper back. Exercise-based treatment helps open space around the nerve and stabilise the spine; where inflammation is more significant, we work alongside GPs and consultants on medication or injection options.

Postural Neck Pain Treatments

Having poor posture can be the cause of postural neck pain. If you suffer from poor posture, focus on exercises that will help to strengthen your muscles. Our treatments for neck pain include:
Strengthening & Stretching exercises
Massage
Testing your range of movement
Ergonomic assessment at work
Manual therapy
Electrotherapy acupuncture
Education and advice
Heat and ice therapy

Wryneck / Torticollis

Wryneck causes the head to tilt to one side and the chin to the other, and can be present from birth or appear suddenly, often triggered by an infection, muscle spasm or minor injury. Most cases respond well to manual therapy and a graded return to normal movement.

When Should You See a Physio About Your Neck Pain?

Book an assessment if your neck pain has lasted more than 2–3 weeks, is restricting your movement, is affecting your sleep, or is spreading into your shoulder or arm. Seek urgent medical attention (A&E or 111) if you experience sudden severe weakness or numbness in your arms or hands, loss of coordination or difficulty walking, neck pain following significant trauma (such as a fall or car accident), or severe pain with fever and unexplained weight loss. Rare, but they require immediate review.

Can poor posture at a desk really cause long-term neck pain?
