Pre-Natal Physiotherapy

Your health powered by Physio Action

Looking After You and Your Baby

Even with a straightforward pregnancy, your body goes through changes that can be uncomfortable — and sometimes concerning. Our pre-natal physiotherapy assesses, diagnoses and treats any pain you're experiencing during pregnancy, and helps you stay fit, active and comfortable right through to birth.

What is Pre-Natal Physiotherapy?

  • Pain assessment & treatment: lower back and pelvic pain are common in pregnancy, as loosening ligaments place extra strain on your joints — we assess, diagnose and treat this throughout your pregnancy.
  • Pelvic floor & core strength: safe, tailored exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor and core muscles, helping protect against common pregnancy-related issues.
  • Posture & movement advice: practical guidance as your posture changes through pregnancy, to reduce strain on your lower back and pelvic joints and keep you moving safely.

Every pregnancy is different, so your physiotherapist designs a plan tailored to your exact needs and stage of pregnancy.

What's Included in Pre-Natal Physiotherapy?

During your assessment, your women's health specialist will check:

  • The location and likely cause of any pain or discomfort you're experiencing
  • Your posture and how it's changing through pregnancy
  • Pelvic floor and core muscle function
  • Joint mobility, with manual therapy or massage where it will help

You'll leave with a personal exercise and treatment plan built around your pregnancy, plus practical advice on staying active and comfortable as your body changes.

Who Needs Pre-Natal Physiotherapy?

Pre-natal physiotherapy is for anyone experiencing pain or discomfort during pregnancy, or who wants support to stay active and healthy while pregnant. If any of the following sound familiar, it's worth booking in:

  • You're experiencing lower back or pelvic pain
  • You're finding it harder to stay active comfortably
  • You'd like tailored advice on safe exercise during pregnancy
  • You want guidance on posture as your pregnancy progresses

If you're looking for support after birth instead, see our Post-Natal Physiotherapy page.

When to Book Pre-Natal Physiotherapy

You can book at any stage of pregnancy — the earlier pain or discomfort is addressed, the easier it usually is to manage. No GP referral is needed.
