I turned up at my first appointment, having been referred through my company health insurance, unable to walk properly because my knee was extremely painful and kept giving way when I walked. It had been getting progressively worse in the previous 6 weeks and nothing I did made it any better. I wasn’t particularly hopeful it would work but had been told this was the first step towards getting further specialist input and I therefore had to do this. The physio I had did lots of asking me to move my leg and pressing on bits to see when it work and took lots of background information about my health generally. He was extremely thorough in coming up with a diagnosis and explaining what he thought the issue was. In terms of treatment I was expecting lots of painful exercises using exercise bikes or resistance bands. In reality treatment involved the advice to not do anything that hurt, to use ice to reduce swelling and some very basic exercises that could be done sitting on a chair needing no special equipment. Just over 2 months later and having had follow up sessions to monitor progress and give different exercises as it recovered (all equally simple), I can now walk without pain and generally don’t feel any pain in my knee. I would recommend going for physio here (I saw Stephen who specialises in lower limb injuries and has over 25 years experience which showed). I am very happy with the outcome.
